Privacy Policy

This policy explains what Career Free Talk stores about you, why we store it, and which third parties are involved.

Your account

To create and manage your account, we store:

  • your name and email address
  • a hash of your password, never the password itself
  • the date you verified your email address
  • your settings: site language and timezone

Your profile

The profile you fill in: country, native languages, the languages you're learning and your level in each, bio, weekly practice goal and profile color, plus the avatar you upload.

Signing in with Google

If you sign in with Google, we only keep the provider name and your Google account identifier to link the accounts. We don't store a Google access token.

Usage data

When you use the site, we record:

  • the rooms you join and when you join and leave them
  • the IP address and browser user agent of your requests, in our activity log and session records

Content you create

We store the content you create and share on the site:

  • room chat messages and direct messages
  • who you follow and who follows you, and your notifications
  • the avatars and room covers you upload
  • the ratings you give and receive
  • reports you file, including the complaint text and evidence links, which moderators can read

Third parties

We use three third-party services:

  • Google, only when you choose to sign in with Google
  • A real-time media provider, for audio and video calls. The media goes directly between you and the provider and never reaches our servers
  • A payment processor, only when you donate. It handles your payment details, which we never see; we keep only the amount, currency, and payment dates

Audio and video

We don't record audio or video. If that ever changes, this policy will be updated before the change takes effect.

Closing your account

Closing your account starts a 30-day window in which you can restore it by signing in and confirming through the link we email you. After that we erase what identifies you: name, email, password, profile, photo, settings, follows, ratings, notifications and the messages you wrote. Reports and the activity log are kept, no longer tied to anyone, for moderation history. If staff delete an account, the erasure happens at once. A banned account is not erased, and an open report against you holds the erasure until it is resolved.

How long we keep data

IP addresses, browser details and the email typed on sign in are removed from the activity log after six months, the period Brazilian law (Marco Civil da Internet) requires us to keep access records. The rest of an account's data stays until the account is closed and erased as described above.
